Just because the word “AthLEAN” didn’t exist back in the day of the Spartans…doesn’t mean they didn’t look that way! Can you believe that 3 years after the movie “300” came out, people are STILL talking about the physiques of the actors that showed off their human body armor and stepped onto the silver screen as perhaps the biggest group of ripped, lean, and muscular guys in one movie!
It’s more than just a cult following that accounts for this. It’s a fascination for what these guys, these actors were able to accomplish in just months of training leading up to the movie to get themselves in the best shape of their lives using very explosive and unique workouts.
Include me among the impressed. So much so in fact that I set out to study the workouts that these guys used and see if there wasn’t some way that I could make them even better…so that my guys…my current day Spartans (that I like to call my TEAM ATHLEAN!) could get even more out of this famed 300 Workout. Well, guess what? We did.
The Athlean-X 300 Workout
If you haven’t already seen it, you really have to check out the AthLEAN-X 300 Workout that I posted on youtube a little while back. It is the ultimate combination of explosive power generating movements with conditioning, with muscle shredding tests of manhood. After all…isn’t that what AthLEAN-X is all about?!?
So what is it that makes this type of training so appealing? Well, to start…it can be done fairly quickly and can help you get a full body workout using many compound movement exercises that give you a high return on your time.
Think about it, if you are like most busy guys, who only have about 30 minutes max to train at a time…would you want to spend them doing concentration curls and crunches or doing a workout that worked your entire body and trained every muscle group in one shot? The answer should be obvious.
The 300 workout does just that by asking you to perform 300 total reps of various exercises. You are instructed to keep your rest to a minimum and blow through your 300 reps with as good form as humanly possible and without keeling over halfway through!
C’mon now, a Spartan wouldn’t fall over from exhaustion before the battle was won now would he? Combining land mine presses, pushup variations, burpees, unique ab exercises, lower body killers, and classic pullup variations the 300 workout is unique enough by itself.
